…In the form of free food of the most delectable kind – morels!
This evening on the way home from work I stopped at a roadside spot where I’d found morels some years back, and… voila!
There they were, camouflaged among last year’s leaves to the point of near invisibility, at least until I saw one, and then they were everywhere!
I picked a bunch, like a BUNCH, of varying sizes and took them home:
The biggest dozen will be stuffed for tomorrow night’s dinner; those needing trimming got sauteed in butter and eaten tonight, accompanied by a soundtrack of yumming and ummmmimg, courtesy of moi. The rest are drying in the oven on low heat, to be stored in the freezer for reconstitution as my hedonistic desires dictate.
This is the best haul I’ve had in several years.
Thank you, Mother Earth. Thank you, Father Sky!
Ahhhh!
Damn you, TCR! And I have NOTHING!
We used to go to a secret place in Marin when I was a kid to hunt for them, but my dad would never reveal it to us, and he took it to the grave. We were too little to pay attention to the road signs.
Regards,
TG
I guess I’m not very adventuresome but I’ve never eaten one. You and Tengrain make them sound sublime.
Ten, some years it’s like that. I’ve been “seeding” likely habitats by relocating fruit too old to eat, but so far I’m still relegated to the “found” areas which have produced in the past.
susan, they’re way beyond sublime, if there is such a thing! 🙂
The famous morels! Just because I’m your ex doesn’t mean you can’t invite me over for some, ya know! 😉
I love how they look so much like coral. I don’t recall ever having you feed me stuffed ones. Stuffed with what? My mouth is watering just thinking about it…
Watch out for Hobitses. They loves mushrooms and might have followed you home.
Gina, I’m workin’ on that post, maybe tomorrow. 😉
np, I hope they do, I’d love to meet some!
