Our local roadsides and streamsides are currently choked with these guys, Field Lilies:

…raw and beautiful, elegant of line, richly hued:

…their guts glowing in the late-day sun:

I like these guys.  They’re Down Home.

Thank you for these photos. When we lived in New Hampshire, one of the first signs that winter wasn’t going to last forever were the little day lily shoots coming up next to the foundation where the snow had melted. I’ve only seen lilies in a couple of places down here in New Mexico…

Did you know that hemerocallis flowers are edible? You should try them sometime!
