Dutchman’s Breeches! April 11, 2010

I found these delicate litlle wildflowers along side the North River in Colrain:

They sit in clusters atop fragile stalks issuing from lacy foliage:

These are a bit earlier than I’ve seen them in past years, perhaps because of last week’s record warm temperatures.

And so begins our local wildflower season!

I’m not sure why, but these little guys are amongst my favorite spring blooms. I can’t wait to get back and shoot some of my own.

I can relate. I think, for me, it’s a combination of the spectacular foliage and the depth if its flower spikes, which lend it to interesting depth-of-field studies.
