Swallowing The Bitter Pill. January 20, 2010

Ultimate Spawn (a.k.a. Supergirl 2 for those of you who visit The Pagan Sphinx,) called me tonight to commiserate about the loss of one of our Massachusetts Senate seats to Scott Brown, a liar, fraud and tea-bagging douche-nozzle of the highest order.

And as a newly minted intern at The Boston Globe, she pointed me toward this Globe commentary by Brian McGrory, which replaced a little bit of the sting with a little bit of a smile.

Needless to say, the piece, which wasn’t particularly flattering to Mr. Brown (or the Massachusetts electorate) drew skads of flack from Tea-Party zombies, to which I was prompted to add my thoughts:

“Well said and creatively put, Mr. McGrory, though it appears from quite a few of these comments that you should have arranged smaller words into shorter sentences.

The REAl take-away from this electoral idiocy ought to be that abandoning the progressive Democratic base in favor of capitulation to Theocrats and the Radical Reicht is a lose-lose proposition; Dems lose elections, and we all lose to the enrichment of the Corporacracy.

Scott Brown is a Palin-esque sock puppet and, as Willie the Shake so aptly said, the “idol of idiot worshipers.”  He’ll be gone soon enough, voted off our Blue Island in time for the new season.”

No doubt I’ll have raised a few hackles by morning, but hey, it’s the least I can do given the current situation.

Couldn’t agree more! He is indeed a douche bag and I was sooooo disgusted with the voting results!

It took Shrub/Cheney 8 years to take us hedlong down the road to hell and MA voters get pissed that B. Obama didn’t fix everything soon enough.

Let’s see how the next 18 months goes in MA, rescind gay marriage, no health care options for many, no abortions or post rape pregnancy precautions…..This guy is no Silvio Conti, at least Silvio had a heart and loved Massachusetts. This Scott Brown is just a hater, every which way we can look at him. Hater.

Too true, Laurie, and your appraisal of the situation is painfully spot-on. Eight years of deregulation and outright criminality, followed by nearly a year of the Rethugs blocking any Obama initiatives, and the voters are pissed at Dems for not having it all fixed by now.

Apparently the Stupid Pills are working, even here in the Deep Blue Northeast.

So nice to see your deeper writing appearing on here again; you’re a talent and an inspiration, and I always love to read and hear what’s on your mind!

Also, glad you enjoyed McGrory’s post as much as I did. He’s a fantastic journalist, isn’t he? His cubicle is actually just a few down from mine, but I haven’t yet found an opportunity to introduce myself…

Scott Brown is indeed a socially regressive butthole. What a shame. And I do think that you (and others) have been absolutely right in the parallel with Palin; it’s a comparison that may seem extreme on first thought, but in reality Brown represents the same nonsensical douchebaggery. The difference is that he hides behind a slightly more articulate façade (while she’s just too dumb for words). In any case, we’ll get him the hell out of here, but not soon enough – not before he’s done his damage. Nice job, MASSHOLES!

Ursula, Thanks for your words of support.

Apparently, though, my thoughts (transcribed in full, above) were unacceptable to our “lefty media,” as they were deleted from their blog page. I went back through my words looking for things I could have said less abrasively, but found only the truth, as I see it.

Too bad the so-called “liberal” Globe editors saw it differently.

Wow, that’s awfully strange. They often seem to delete a handful of scattered comments, and leave up many others that I imagine are equally as “offensive.” I’m curious as to how they make those decisions, because I’m not at all sure who does so or what the process is. I’ve been seeing a lot of “We deleted this comment” alongside a lot of really nasty and sardonic comments by right-wingers. It seems random. But you’d think they could have left up one comment in his defense where there are hundreds more attacking him.

Howevvverr…

I just had a thought: Your comment made sense to me, and was certainly worded accurately in line with what you were trying to say. However, upon a quick glance, it might have appeared to someone that you were not commending hMcGrory and bashing those other idiotic comments, but rather criticizing McGrory’s writing skills. Perhaps that’s why they removed it. Oh well.

Could be, My Sweet.

But somehow I can’t Play Well With Others when it comes to politics, or parse my words in a way which doesn’t offend the thin-skinned.

Oh well… 😉
