The strangely dispassionate buds of the Northern Pitcher Plant, Sarracenia purpurea:
…and their accompanying pitchers, vascular* and dangerous:
Penile on the outside, vaginal on the inside, with balls:
Isn’t nature wonderful!
* So what’s with the vascular, already? That’s two vasculars in two weeks!!
A hearty thanks to Mary over at Work of thePoet for hosting this Ruby meme.
The bud looks like chestnut. 🙂
Your humour is a hoot! Thanks for the smiles!
Never seen those plants. Quite a description given there:-)
cool! I love when nature is penile and vaginal at the same time 😉
love their deep color
Very cool!
I hope you’re planning to post some photos from Saturday and Sunday. I’m sure you got some really great shots. When you do, I’ll link to you so my bloggie buds can come over if they want to.
PS, eventually – actually, yours came out better than mine, I was having exposure problems and I have lots of junk to sort through (as well as a few better shots.)
I’m getting there, though, and should have a few up soon.
Thanks again for your hospitality (and for sharing your view! 😉 )
Are they edible? They look suspiciously like salad.
Hey … it’s been a long time since I visited. Love, love, love your photos. I lived in Western Mass for awhile and these make me home sick. I certainly appreciate your artist’s eye. Might I ask what kind of camera you use?
Simply lovely.
ZN, not to my knowledge; they’re rare in these parts and are most likely protected (though as an aspiring photographer I’m loathe to disturb anything, much less pick it!)
Rachael, thanks. Sorry about the home sickness1 🙂
I used my Canon D40 (a decent DSLR, but not a professional model) and a 400mm Canon L series lens for these shots. I’m between 15 and 30 feet from my subjects here.
I need to get back up there and catch the opened blooms!
