Burl. February 12, 2009

‘Another attempt at rendering reality in black & white:
I’d passed this several times before, but generally in the afternoon, when it was back-lit. This morning shot emphasized the tortured grain of this deformed maple burl.*
Well anyway, I thought it was interesting…
* Corrected by Treeman in comments; I had called it a “boll,” which was incorrect. Thanks, Treeman!
That’s incredible! and how interesting and I love the black and white. Your other photos are as beautiful as always! Thanks!
It’s some great mixture of abstract art and medival sculpture.
Great picture!
ymp, welcome, and thanks! 🙂
that’s cool. i
It’s a burl!
This is lovely, and well-framed. It’s lucky that someone hasn’t chopped this down to make a table or something out of it.
I’m enjoying exploring your blog so much — how do I follow it? I don’t see a follow button, like there is on Blogger. ( I’m totally new to blogging….I didn’t know what I was missing!)
That’s beautiful! You submit this to Monochrome Monday. It’s really special. 🙂
Oh. Do you want to see my sunset photos from Hadley? Go to The Pagan’s Eye and scroll down a few posts to Sky Watch.
Treeman, welcome, and thanks. I’ve made the correction (so now new visitors might wonder what the heck we’re carrying on about!) 😉
FrankieAnon, welcome to my place. I think what’s saved this one is that it’s at roadside, and would be hard to steal without getting caught. Plus, the cracks and fissures run deeper than most I’ve seen, and I think would reduce its utility as veneer.
I don’t know about “following” blogs – I just toss them into my Blogroll and try to visit them more or less regularly (it’s been “less” lately, to my embarrassment.)
There’s also some way to get notified when comments subsequent to yours are posted, but I’ve never done that.)
Oh, and PS, I’m not a regular at MM, and don’t want to bore my “regulars” by reposting photos which I’ve used elsewhere.
But having said that, perhaps I’ll collect my last few B&Ws into one post for that purpose, so it can be easily skipped by folks who have seen them already.
Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂
