It’s Story Time!

Here’s a meme for you all, started by I, Splotchy. Splotch dusted off the old summer-campfire-diversion of starting a “story,” then passing the ball to someone else.

And so it goes, and so it goes.

So by way of Splotchy, Freida Bee, and Mathman, here’s my attempt at continuing the Unnamed Saga.

But before you get all busy with it, you might want to go back to the source and scope out the many, many permutations of prose which necessarily propagate from this sort of dendritic structure. The creativity of Youz Guys astounds me!

‘K, on with it:

I woke up hungry. I pulled my bedroom curtain to the side and looked out on a hazy morning. I dragged myself into the kitchen, in search of something to eat. I reached for a jar of applesauce sitting next to the sink, and found it very cold to the touch. I opened the jar and realized it was frozen. (Splotchy)

I was used to the house being quite cold in the mornings, as the night log usually burns out around one AM when I am dreaming cozily under my covers, not normally waking to put a new one on until morning. I was surprised because on the rare occasions that it actually had reached sub-freezing temperatures in the house, I had awakened in the night to restart the fire. I would have been worried about the pipes before P-Day, but there hadn’t been running water in two years and that was one of the few advantages to being dependent on rainwater, no pipes. (Freida Bee)

The nightmares began during the following spring. The apple trees came to life in my dreams. At first the trees spoke and I thought they were amusing. That changed when the messages arrived. Lately, their anger was directed at me. (mathman6293)

I turned and stared out the kitchen window, past the frosty-lidded cistern to the orchard beyond. My trees, my beautiful fruit trees, stood leafless and dark. I wished with all my heart that this was just a normal winter thing, but it wasn’t.

“Why are you blaming me, guys? You know I love you. You watched me go out and vote that last time, in the ice-storm. It’s not like I didn’t try!”

I turned with a sigh and went to the phone to give Zaius a call. Perhaps The Good Doctor had made some incremental progress on his Long-Shot-Theory. (TCR)

………………………

Well there now! That’s it from me.

Now the hard part: tagging three people who aren’t already part of this loop. That’s difficult both because I have a very limited ‘sphere presence, and because this monster has branched out in so many different directions that trying to follow it makes my head hurt.

OK, first up, in all fairness because I used his name in vain, and as an incarnation of Dirty Pool, because he was already tagged and sent this beast off in a totally different direction, I’m re-roping Dr. Zaius for a second go. Hey man, you knew we humans don’t play fair!

Second to feel my wrath will be Sherry over at After The Bridge. Go for it, Gurrrl!

And lastly, Konagod gets poked with this sharpish stick. Grab the Tequila, Dude, put some Ella on the box and have at it.

Good Night, and Good Luck.

Ahh yes, time to put a dime in the creativity box and see what pops out.

2. FranIAm - December 9, 2007

This is really good! I am loving this and was just over at Splotchy’s. It has gone wild- it has gone, dare I say… viral.

All the kids are doing it!

3. sherry - December 9, 2007

i’ve never done one of these. do i just write it on yours or mine????

4. freidabee - December 9, 2007

Oh, I am happy to see the blog-child prosper, and, in particular, through you, CR. I am also happy to finally see where you reside. Nice.

5. DCup - December 10, 2007

Fab. I love this meme. I think it is by far my favorite because each person brings his/her own creative sense and writerly style to the seed.

Well done!

Paging Dr. Zaius.

6. Mathman6293 - December 10, 2007

Nice.

Sherry, I did a short post with an explanation of “what it is,” then cut-and-pasted the various “additions” of others into it. If you have the time and the inclination, you might even start at the origins at “I, Splotchy” and see who wrote what, then cut-and paste whatever “offerings” you like into a “prequel” to what you might add.

Do this all on your own page, then “tag” some other bloggers who you think will find this amusing.

I too struggled with the “What the heck do I do now?” question, so don’t be shy to ask.

And if all else fails, bounce it back to someone above you in the thread. I mean, this is “our baby” now, and we all have a vested interest in seeing it grow! 😉

it’s up over at my place and i bounced it back to you. was that how it works? let me know what you think, o.k?

9. littlebangtheory - December 10, 2007

Well the “bounce-back” makes for kind of a small circle, but seeing as we’re friends and all, I’ll let you live. 😉

And I’m runnin’ with it…

10. Splotchy - December 10, 2007

Nifty! I am wondering if two mutant threads will ever meet up. It’ll be freakin’ Armageddon.

Thanks for being infected (multiple times!).
