A Little Gift From Monsanto To You! June 23, 2007

Yesterday Boxer Rebellion had a very worthwhile post about the movie Fast Food Nation in which he mentioned production methods for milk.

This reminded me of a speaker I heard on the radio a while back (Dang, I can’t remember his name!) who had quite a lot of embarrassing information about our Good Neighbors, Monsanto. You know, the purveyors of rBGH (recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone)?

This is the good stuff which makes cows produce abnormal amounts of milk so our children can drink lots and lots of it.

Now because Monsanto wanted to make sure their Frankencows were making Nice Safe Milk for our babies, they hired an independent lab to test their new product. Unfortunately, the study came back disclosing that rBGH caused a very significant increase in the amount of PUS AND BLOOD IN THE MILK.

Yum!

Fortunately, Monsanto had a way to correct the problem…

…wait for it…

…they bought the study and BURIED IT. No study, no problem.
So the next time you grab a gallon of the good stuff, think about spending a wee tad more for locally produced Certified Organic milk, or at least milk which clearly states that it’s free of hormones and antibiotics.

Just a thought…

First, thank you for adding me to your blogroll, I have no idea how you were not on mine yet as I do read you pretty often. Two, thanks for the link to mine.

The milk issue is one that I do think about as I do not eat pork or beef and rarely eat chicken, but I do keep milk in the house often. I guess this another change I will have to make is that I need to find a local dairy farm to get milk from.

You’re welcome! 🙂

If you’re lucky (and don’t give off “USDA vibes”) you might be able to buy raw milk from a local farm. It’s supposed to have benefits, despite the Ag Department’s attempts to scare the peeps off of it.

I buy organic for my daughters, they drink a lot more of it than I do!

Mmmm, raw milk. Fresh from the cow. There’s not much better, IMHO! I may have to grab a bucket and go for a late night walk!

In our town we have a certified organic dairy – no rBGH, and the cows are fed only certified organic feed. That’s really the only way to fight the multinational biotechs like Monsanto. Quietly go about your business (and don’t buy their stuff); when we finally have mandatory food labeling in this country for GMO’s, then a lot of people will not be bying their stuff.

A little off topic, but be sure to watch ‘Sweet Misery – A Poisoned World’ concerning another gift from Monsanto: aspartame
