A couple of days ago I came acrosss a healthy stand of chanterelles and picked enough for a couple of meals. They were fat and clean and really nice:
…and found their way into my belly, thusly -
Ginger Chicken over Basmati rice, with local asparagus and localler (!) chanterelles:

Bummer. I mean, really.
Kinda emphasizes the virtues of Henry’s retreat into Fat and Happy Sloppydom, if you follow me.
Not that Henry couldn’t still blow my doors off on any crag on any given day. It’s just that Henry’s laying back is a proven survival strategy, and John took climbing so seriously that the alternative seemed likely in the long run.
God bless him, then. He was passionate and brave in defense of his viewpoints.
