A Mix Of Clouds And Sun… January 8, 2009

Today was a wash, wet snow squalls and a stiff breeze, not great for the camera, and not overly inspiring.  Still, I had to take it out (you know) and captured these.

The East Branch of the Westfield River:

And the South River in Worthington:

The later’s light was more typical of the day.

But just so you don’t go away all hang-dog, here are a few from yesterday, when the dismal skies broke open to reveal a little heaven, complete with the Color Blue.

A cathedral of hemlocks, gloried by fast-moving clouds:

…and a coquettish gibbous moon, hiding, revealing, teasing behind a rushing cirrus veil:

Gizmo was conscripted to give a closer look.  Apologies to those of you with slower connections, but I wanted this shot to contain everything it does here at home:

This will be it for a bit, as I’m off to visit Miz Lu(mena) and Frau Biergut in their Eastern Home right after work tomorrow.  Frau B is having a gallery showing of her amazing landscape photography, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world!

They just get more awesome every time you take the camera outside, down the road, up the mountain — whatever, wherever! Never fails to take my breath away! Now, go have some fun for the weekend, looks like you’ve planned well. Enjoy! have a great time and come back and take some more pictures!

All of these are just wonderful! Your “cathedral of hemlocks” is no less than spectacular! And oh, that moon!

You sure are blasé about the quality shots you share with us. :)

The light in the South River shot may not be the best for photography, but I want to climb into that picture (as long as I can put my foot on a rock above the water line, that is).

That’s the kind of day that I find perfect in winter.

Thanks for sharing, Cuz, and have a great time in Teh Big City!

I liked them a lot too. Your ability to photograph the subtle elements of deep winter landscapes is developing (no pun intended) wonderfully. Have a good journey and visit. I looked at Frau B’s photography and was very impressed.

I have a thing for moon shots, so I enjoyed those a lot. Winter is so beautiful seen through your lens and in the comfort of my warm home! :-)

Enjoy the photo exhibit. I just went to Frau B’s website and WOW. She is amazing!

Yes, she is! And very generous with her time as she answers my many questions.

Thank you all for your kind words, and my apologies for making your toes cold! ;)

I like the top one in particular. It’s those branches in the way, but not in focus. They remind me of things I like to play with in my paintings. And it’s an interesting view along the river, to which the house lends scale as we ll as interest.
