Got a hankerin’ for some fruits de terre tonight, and I indulged it by rounding up all the Usual Suspects, including turnip, parsnips, carrots and a sweet potato, along with a few veggie accomplices:
Chunked up the harder stuff, tossed it with some olive oil, fresh garlic and rosemary from my window box and stuck it in a 400 degree 0ven while I sliced up the veggies, including a load of Brussels sprouts, some colorful peppers, a big poblano chile and a nice fat leek. Then it was “All In!,” with a dash of tamari and a smile.
Twenty minutes later, they surrendered, coming out with their hands up, contrite, tender, submissive, mine:
I ate them tenderly. It was a very good night.

looks very very tasty.
Nice stilllife and cute title.
PS, Tasty, too!
Dude -
I’ve been doing a lot of Brussel spouts and carmelizing them with a bit of bacon (or bacon fat) and serving it over brown rice. Olive oil works really well too. Just steam (or boil) them first, drain ‘em, and then brown them in some sort of fat.
Give it a bash. You can thank me later.
Regards,
Tengrain
Thanks (oops!), Ten, I will - that flavor combination sounds fabulous, with the bacon, I mean. I’ve been sautéing b-sprouts rather than boiling them for a good while now, getting them to caramelize a bit, adding a dash of tamari or balsamic vinegar. They travel well for lunches that way, unlike the boiled ones, which I find unpalatable when cold.
Looks good! Kind of a winter ratatouille. Hadn’t thought of doing this. Thanks for the inspiration. And, as usual, great photo.
I finally caught up on foodie blogging yesterday.
Nicely done!
